New NCSU Faculty Member Dorianne Laux joins our MFA and Creative Writing team; among her volumes are Facts About the Moon, What We Carry, and Smoke; she has edited a number of books including The Poet’s Companion:  A Guide to the Pleasures of Writing.  Poet Joseph Millar (Dorianne’s husband) is the author of Fortune and Overtime, plus two chapbooks, Slow Dancer and Midlife.

From the 1960s, a major voice in American poetry, winner of the National Book Award and Pulitzer Prizes, whose volumes include They Feed the Lion, A Walk with Tom Jefferson, What Work Is, The Mercy and his most recent, Breath.

NCSU Fiction Contest Presentation with

First, the presentation of awards for the 2008 Short Story Contests with our Guest Judge C. Michael Curtis, the Fiction Editor of The Atlantic Monthly Magazine.  This will be followed by a reading from acclaimed Southern author (and spouse of Mr. Curtis) Elizabeth Cox, author of The Ragged Way People Fall Out of Love, Night Talk, Familiar Ground and The Slow Moon; plus a collection of short stories, Bargains in the Real World.

The much-awarded novelist and author of Motherkind, Fast Lanes, Machine Dreams and Shelter, plus a collection of stories, Black Tickets; her latest novel, Lark and Termite, will be hot off the press.

ELLEN BRYANT VOIGT

Poet and scholar, author of Kyrie, Shadow of Heaven, Claiming Kin, Lotus Flowers and Messenger: New and Selected Poems 1976-2006, plus the critical work, The Flexible Lyric, and Guest Judge for the 2008 NCSU Poetry Contest.
