Within the department the Association of English Graduate Students (AEGS) represents the interests of graduate students. AEGiS elects a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and also sponsors programs and parties. Through AEGS, student representatives also participate in the university-wide Graduate Student Association. Officers of AEGS are invited to attend meetings of the department's Graduate Studies Committee, enabling them to gain insights into and contribute to the decision and curriculum-making processes of the graduate programs.
Call for Papers: North Carolina State University English Graduate Student Symposium March 5-6, 2010
The University Graduate Student Association (UGSA) is recognized by the administration as the voice of the graduate students. The UGSA President has full voting membership on the Administrative Board and the UGSA has the ability to present grievances to the administration on behalf of any graduate student. The UGSA also has a travel fund through which graduate students can receive funds to present original research at professional meetings. http://ugsa.ncsu.edu/. The UGSA and AEGS can be effective in promoting constructive change in the graduate program.
