Financial Aid

Graduate students may receive financial support through loans, fellowships, traineeships, and teaching or research assistantships sponsored by federal, state, and private agencies. The Department of English offers a limited number of teaching assistantships to MS students. These students will be trained to teach undergraduate courses in technical and business writing. Appointments will be made from applications completed by February 1st and, if necessary, in a second cycle from those completed by April 1st.  Students are nominated for fellowships by the Department of English, with selection being made by faculty committees or by the Graduate School. Applicants for these awards should correspond directly with the Department of English concerning the availability of awards and related information.

Students enrolled in the Master of Science in Technical Communication at NC State are also eligible for local and national scholarships offered by the Society for Technical Communication. Since deadlines for these scholarships vary, students are encouraged to contact the Society of Technical Communication (STC) Carolina chapter or national office for information.

Prospective and enrolled students may request consideration for financial assistance by completing the appropriate sections of the admissions application form. Financial aid application packages may be downloaded from Graduate School Funding. Early applicants (before February 1) have the best chance for competitive merit awards. (Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.)

We regret that university financial aid is not available to international students. A listing of other sources of financial aid available to international students may be viewed at the Office of International Scholar and Student Services.
