Hutcheson Nominated for Emmy

Neal Hutcheson, filmmaker for the North Carolina Language and Life Project (NCLLP), has been nominated for an Emmy award for his TV production "The Last One." This documentary profiles the production of moonshine by the famous moonshiner, the late Popcorn Sutton, who is also featured in NCLLP documentaries such as "Mountain Talk" and "Voices of North Carolina." His nomination is in the category of Cultural Documentaries. Hutcheson was awarded the CHASS Extension Service Award in 2009 and inducted into the NC State Academy of Outstanding Faculty in Extension and Engagement this year. The NSF, the University, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the William C. Friday Endowment has supported Hutcheson's documentary productions. Hutcheson has now produced seven documentaries on language and life aired on PBS and the Documentary Channel.
Balaban, Nilsen Address Graduates

The English Department's Spring graduation ceremony was held Saturday, May 7, 2009, at West Raleigh Presbyterian Church.At the ceremony, Poet-in-Residence John Balaban and graduating senior Ryan Nilsen addressed the graduates and their families.
