"Straight to the Mic" Spoken Word Competition

The Africana Studies Program (AFS) and NC State’s Obsidian: Literature in the African Diaspora invite you to participate in the “Straight to the Mic” Spoken Word Competition. Four finalists will be chosen to present their work at the African American Cultural Center on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 as a part of the Obsidian 2012 Reading Series.

To be eligible to participate, writers must be an undergraduate student who is/has been ONE of the following:

  • an Africana Studies majors or minors; OR
  •  enrolled in an Africana Studies Program (AFS) course; OR
  • connected regularly with the African American Cultural Center or the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs; OR
  • a volunteer with Obsidian: Literature in the African Diaspora; OR
  • enrolled in a Creative Writing class.

Submit your Spoken Word by 5 pm on Friday, February 3rd 2012:

  • In person at the Obsidian Office in Tompkins Room 234; OR
  • Through campus mail to Attn: “Straight to the Mic” Spoken Word Competition Obsidian, Box 8105; OR
  • By e-mail to Obsidian@ncsu.edu with subject “Straight to the Mic” Spoken Word Competition
