Undergraduate Programs

The English Department offers a bachelor of arts degree in a variety of concentrations: Creative Writing, Film, Language and Literature, Language, Writing and Rhetoric, Teacher Education, World Literature.

It also offers a bachelor of science in English.

The department offers minors in American Literature, English Literature, World Literature, Creative Writing, Technical and Scientific Communication, Journalism, Linguistics, and Film Studies.

NC State students take one or two writing courses in their first year, depending on their placement scores, to satisfy the General Education Requirements in Writing and Speaking.

The Department of English offers three writing courses for juniors and seniors majoring in a variety of technical, scientific, and management-oriented fields.

The department offers students with an undergraduate degree the opportunity to earn a five-course non-degree certificate in professional writing to enhance their career prospects in technical and business writing and journalism.

Internships provide the opportunity for on-the-job experience in writing, editing, graphics, and publication under expert supervision in professional settings.

Small seminar classes, one-on-one independent study with faculty, and sustained research projects characterize the honors experience for qualified students.

The NCSU Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, Alpha Pi Theta, recognizes high scholastic achievement and offers opportunities for leadership and service.

Every spring, the Undergraduate Studies Committee of the English Department invites applications from English majors for the A.M. Fountain Scholarship, the Eugene H. Harrison Scholarship, the Guy Owen Memorial Scholarship, and the Department of English Interns' Scholarship.

The department sponsors programs in Oxford, England.

The English Club is a student-run organization that is open to all NC State students who have an interest in English.
