World Literature (LIT)
A comprehensive study of literature with no national or linguistic restriction
In addition to meeting the University and CHASS requirements, students in the LIT curricular option must take the following courses in the major:

Departmental Distribution:
- Each LIT student must take at least 12 hours of courses in FL, CL, GRK, LAT, or cross-listed (ENG/FL) courses.
- Each LIT student must take at least 18 hours of ENG or cross-listed (ENG/FL) courses.
200-Level Courses:
- LIT students must take at least one 200-level literature course (from among categories 3 through 10).
- They may take no more than three 200-level courses among categories 1 through 10.
- Requirement 12 may be taken at the 200 level.
English-related minors available to LIT majors:
- Creative Writing
- Film Studies
- Journalism
- Linguistics
- Technical and Scientific Communication
One course—and only one—can be counted in both the major and any minor.
Foreign-language-related minors available to LIT majors:
- Chinese Studies
- Classical Greek
- Classical Studies
- French
- German
- Italian Studies
- Japanese
- Japan Studies
- Russian Studies
- Spanish
