Major/Program Footnotes:
Students must receive a C or better in all Education courses, and a C- or better in all others.
Students may take no more that four 200-level courses to satisfy requirements listed in notes 7-13.
1Foreign Language 201 a. Students with high school credit or other knowledge of French, German, Latin, or Spanish must take a placement test to determine the appropriate level for their first course. b. Students who place into FL _ 202 or above have met the language requirement and are eligible to receive 3 hours of advanced placement credit by enrolling in the course into which they are placed and earning a grade of “C-“ or better on the first attempt. c. FL 202 is recommended. NOTE: FL 101 will not count towards graduation unless in a language other than the one used to fill the University’s FL 102 proficiency requirement.
2History Two 200-level courses are required in History, one each from Groups I and II. Group I: AFS 275, 276; ARC 242; HI 207, 215, 216, 233, 263, 264, 270, 275, 276. Group II: HI 205, 208, 209, 210, 221, 222, 251, 252.
3Math Freshmen who place into MA 114 or one of the calculus courses (MA 121, 131, or 141) at NC State and earn a C or better on the first attempt will earn an extra three hours of mathematics credit and satisfy the GEP requirement for six credits of math. (The additional three hours of credit will not be given if a student attempts a lower level math course before taking MA 114, 121, 131, 141, or if MA 114, 121, 131, or 141 is taken at another institution.)
4Social Science Four 3-credit courses from at least three of the following areas: ANT, ARE, EC, PS, PSYCH, SOC. Also ENG 210, GEO 220, IDS 401, or STS 402. 12 credits.
5Philosophy. One 3-credit PHI course from the approved GEP list or any 3-credit course approved as a substitute by the Department of Philosophy and Religion.
6Residency Requirement. Minimum of 15 hours of ENG / Film courses at NC State.
7Grade point average requirement. All students must have an overall GPA of at least 2.5 to graduate.
