2010 NCSU Poetry Contest

Come January 15th, we will be accepting entries for the annual 2010 NCSU Poetry Contest.   This remains one of the largest free-entry contests in the South; the contest in 2007 topped out at over 700+ (!) submissions from across the state.  The judge has not been selected for this year's contest, but watch this space for updates.  The rules are unchanging through the years...

The contest’s postmark DEADLINE will be March 1st, 2010

ELIGIBILITY:

  • The contest is open to all North Carolina residents except 1) tenured/tenure-track professors in the University of North Carolina system or 2) writers with a published book.

  • All entries must be typed, and you should send us two copies of each poem.  You may submit as many as three poems.  There is no limit as to length.

  • Previous finalists must submit new work.

  • Do NOT put your name on the poem, so it may be judged anonymously.  Put your name on a cover sheet along with your contact information.

  • No email submissions accepted.  Due to volume, we cannot contact each contestant or return your poems afterwards.

Contestants should submit their poems to:

FINAL RESULTS:  The lists of finalists, honorable mentions, and winners will be published here. Ordinarily, there is a big ceremony in Caldwell Hall, but this year will be different due to the appearance of U.S. Poet Laureate Charles Simic at Thompson Theater on March 29th.  This year prize winners will be acknowledged but we will send out the prize money and books (the 2010 Poetry Market) for the Honorable Mentions. We do hope you will join us for the Simic reading, which promises to be a great evening of poetry.

Here are the results from earlier contests:
