CHRIS ANSON

Chris Anson, along with coauthors Amy Hodges and Mysti Rudd, published a chapter titled “The Writing-Enriched Curriculum: Transnational Prospects and Challenges” in Teaching and Studying Transnational Composition, edited by Christiane Donahue and Bruce Horner (Modern Language Association).

JOSIE TORRES BARTH

Josie Torres Barth’s chapter “Specters of Serling: Authorship, Television History, and Inherited Prestige in The Twilight Zone (2019-2020)” was published in the edited collection Prestige Television: Cultural and Artistic Value in Twenty-First Century America (Rutgers University Press, 2022). 

PAUL FYFE

Paul Fyfe presented “Reinstituting Victorian Studies with the Teaching Archive” at the Victorians Institute Conference at USC–Upstate in Spartanburg, SC.

He was recently interviewed for an article “Machines Can Craft Essays. How Should Writing Be Taught Now?” in Inside Higher Ed, October 26.

Marsha Gordon’s forthcoming book, Becoming the Ex-Wife: The Unconventional Life & Forgotten Writings of Ursula Parrott, is now available for pre-order at the University of California Press website (use code 21W2240 for 30% off).

On November 17, Gordon will participate in a panel to discuss her collaborative installation, “In Search of Thoreau’s Flowers,” at the Harvard Museum of Natural History. The project now has its own website.

Gordon will interview actor Doug McKeon, who co-starred with Henry Fonda, Katharine Hepburn, and Jane Fonda in On Golden Pond, after a screening of the film at the Cary Theater on Sunday November 13 at 4 p.m.

On October 22, Maya L. Kapoor moderated a panel on “Synecdoche and Science Writing,” which she organized for the annual National Association of Science Writers meeting. Panelists included Mara Grunbaum, Sabrina Imbler, and David Quammen.

In conjunction with the film Plain Sense and the annual Don Welch Teacher’s Conference, Jason Miller’s online project the Don Welch Digital Archive is now live. Curated from more than 5,000 pages of personal items, the archive features filmed interviews, photographs, audio, poetry drafts, teaching lessons, postcards, and personal letters between the poet and figures such as William Stafford. One highlight includes a thirty-year correspondence with former U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser.

ALISON RODRIGUEZ & BETHANY VAN SCOOTER

Alison Rodriguez and Bethany Van Scooter will present their panel titled “Shifting Our Priorities Toward Student Self-Sufficiency and Academic Literacy in the FYW Classroom” at the 2023 Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC), which will be held in Chicago in February. 

JOHN WALL

John Wall delivered his paper “Materializing Lost Space and Time: The Virtual St  Paul’s Cathedral Project and its Implications for a Transformed Scholarly Agenda” at the annual meeting of the Southeastern Renaissance Conference, hosted by Winston-Salem State University September 29–October 1. 

Wall’s Virtual Cathedral Project was featured in an episode of PBS NC’s show Tech Science, broadcast on September 15, in a segment starting at the 12 minutes and 20 seconds mark. The show will also be posted online to PBS NC’s YouTube channel and on their science website later this year.
