Maryellen Smith (M.S. Technical Communication ’07)
I attended an elite private school as an undergraduate. In all honesty, I was apprehensive about coming to a huge public university for graduate school. I didn’t know what the quality of education would be like. By the time I graduated in 2007, I couldn’t have been more proud to become an alumna of NC State.
Not only was the quality of my education outstanding and practical, but I made lifelong friends. I chose the M.S. in Technical Communication degree because it gave me the potential to leverage my knowledge in many different ways. Since the program is offered in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, it was much more than simply learning a lot of “geeky” information like other programs. I feel that understanding the social implications and ethical aspects of information management led to a valuable level of discernment that serves me well every day. When someone asks me what accomplishment I’m most proud of, it’s my degree from NC State!
