HUILING DING

Huiling Ding wrote the foreword for Embodied Environmental Risk in Technical Communication: Problems and Solutions Toward Social Sustainability (Routledge, 2022).

With Yeqing Kong, Ding wrote  the introduction to the Special Issue on Intercultural Participatory Risk Communication About COVID-19: Using Immaterial Labor to Promote Social Justice in a Pandemic, Journal of Rhetoric, Professional Communication, and Globalization (Volume 11, 2022).

She published “Technological Influences on Culture: From the Internet to Big Data” (co-authors R. Men and L. Troyer) and “Communication, Discourse, and Language” (co-authors J. Altarriba, H. Bean, D. Doughtery, and A. Stetyick) in Culture 2.0: The Intersection of National and Organizational Culture (Peter Lang, 2023).

Ding was a Faculty Participant in the National Humanities Center’s Responsible Artificial Intelligence Curriculum Design Project.

She was a 2022–23 Provost’s Faculty Fellow, receiving support for her project on Analytics-Driven Academic Pathways to High-Impact Education (ADAPT): Preparing Students (and Faculty) for Future of Work with Real-time Labor Market Analytics.

Ding has recently given talks and served on panels as follows:

• Invited speaker — Risk Communication about a Pandemic: Race, Class, and Health Disparities During COVID-19. Utah University
• Invited speaker — Computational Job Advertisement-Resume Matching: Building and Comparing Job-Resume Skill Vectors to Evaluate Your Mis/Match. SpeedCon, Raleigh.
• Plenary speaker — Automated Recruiting and Algorithmic Hire: How Artificial Intelligence Changes the Job Search and What You Can Do About It. Metropolitan State University.
• Highlighted speaker — AI, Labor Market Analytics, HR Technologies, and Future of Work. University Research Symposium: Putting Data Science into Practice: Emerging Role of AI in Research. NC State University.
• Round table panelist — Mentoring Under-Represented Faculty: Ways to Build Informal Infrastructure of Equity and Organizational Justice in Higher Education. Equity Research Symposium. NC State University.

In June, she will serve as a Plenary Super Panelist at the ATTW conference (virtual) for the panel “Power, Culture, Equity, and Justice in the Field of Technical Communication.”

ANNA GIBSON

Anna Gibson won the university’s Outstanding Teacher Award and the Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher Award. 

Marsha Gordon’s new book, Becoming the Ex-Wife: The Unconventional Life & Forgotten Writings of Ursula Parrott, has been published by the University of California Press. The local book launch was held at So & So Books (with Belle Boggs) and at The Cary Theater (with Tift Merritt). Other events were held in the Washington DC area at the University of Maryland, the Greenbelt Theater, the National Gallery of Art, and the American Film Institute Silver Theater.  

Additionally, Gordon released an Ursula Parrott in Two Minutes Video, had an excerpt of her book published in Humanities: The Magazine of the National Endowment for the Humanities, was interviewed by Walter magazine, and had an advance review appear in NewCityLit out of Chicago.

The Virtual St Paul’s Cathedral Project received the “First Runner-Up” award through the Digital Humanities Awards program in the category of Data Visualization. From Wall: “Thank you to all of you who supported us in this process. I am most grateful to you!”
