BELLE BOGGS

In October, Belle Boggs read as part of the “Mothers and Strangers” gallery exhibit organized by Lee Smith and Samia Serageldin, co-editors of a new anthology, Mothers and Strangers, forthcoming from UNC Press.

Boggs published “The Significance of Michelle Obama’s Fertility Story”in The Atlantic. The article included an interview with Ronisha Browdy.

Huiling Ding published “Developments of Technical Communication in China: Update after 7 years” in Technical Communication Quarterly. 

Ding’s article “Cross-cultural Whistle-blowing in Emerging Outbreaks: Revealing Health Risks through Tactic Communication and Rhetorical Hijacking” appeared in Communication Design Quarterly.

Her project “Recruiting Trip in China to Help Build 3+2 Programs in Technical Communication” was awarded $1,000 from the International Travel Assistance Fund with a match of $1,000 from the CHASS Research Office.

Ding was nominated for NC State’s Outstanding Global Engagement Award in 2018. 

With help from MSTC and CRDM students, Ding co-hosted the WritersUA Eastconference, held October 4–5 here at NC State, and co-presented “Creating Global Content Strategy for Chinese Universities” with MSTC alumnus Yingying Tang. 

Hans Kellner recently published two essays: “A Dutchman Views the World: Frank Ankersmit as a Reader” in The Journal of the Philosophy of History(volume 12) and “Durable Goods: A Response to Jaume Aurell” in History and Theory(volume 57).

Beryl Cox Pittman taught Academic Writing for the international business program at Aalto University, Mikkeli, Finland, from November 1–December 14.

John Wall published an essay entitled “The Contested Pliability of Sacred Space in St. Paul’s Cathedral and Paul’s Churchyard in Early Modern London” in Renaissance Papers 2017. 

On December 7, Wall presented “How Acoustic Engineers Changed My Life” to a meeting of the North Carolina chapter of the Acoustic Society of America.

On October 5, Doug Walls presented “When Best Practices Aren’t: User Experience Development in Social Justice Contexts” at the WritersUA East conference in Raleigh.
