DAUN DAEMON

On February 28, Daun Daemon’s poem “When Mama Sang ‘Mockingbird Hill'” was published by Peeking Cat Poetry.

ROBIN DODSWORTH

Robin Dodsworth has been named a University Faculty Scholar.

Marsha Gordon won a National Humanities Center award next year for her book project, Leftover Ladies: Ursula Parrott and the Emergence of the Modern Woman.

Tony Harrison’s co-edited, open source edition of Christina Rossetti’s most famous poem, “Goblin Market,” was published this past fall. It features biographical and editorial introductions, along with commentary on the poem in various categories — linguistic, cultural, historical, interpretative, and textual — as well as illustrations from earlier editions of the poem.

On February 16, Kyesha Jennings facilitated a workshop on “Hip-Hop Based Pedagogical Practices” for Durham Public School teachers. 

Also in February, her article “Joe Winters Broke Down Racial Barriers in the Raleigh Police Force and the Entertainment World” was published in the INDY. An exhibit highlighting Winters’ life and achievements is open through March.

DORIANNE LAUX

On February 27, Dorianne Laux read from her new book of poetry, Only As the Day Is Long, at the Talley Student Union.

BERYL COX PITTMAN

Beryl Cox Pittman served as a judge for the Technicmetric Poetry Slam on January 31. It was sponsored by the National Society of Black Engineers, STEMedia, and Women and Minority Engineering Program.

On March 1, she led a workshop on “Getting Down to Business (Plans)” for the finalists in the Lulu eGames, NC State’s annual $100,000 startup competition.

Pittman was invited to serve on the Advisory Board for EDULEARN 19, a conference organized by the International Association of Technology, Education, and Development.
