Faculty Notes for February 2021

CHRIS ANSON

On February 11, Chris Anson ran a faculty-development session for teachers in the University of Minnesota’s College-in-the-Schools Program focusing on theories and practices of multimodal writing.

Anson also ran a faculty workshop on the uses of digital instructional tools for learning and communicating at the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design, and Technology in Dublin, Ireland, on February 12.

BELLE BOGGS

Belle Boggs published “Today’s Outlaws,” a longform article about the inspiration activists in Alamance County take from Wyatt Outlaw, in The Assembly, a new journal about power and politics in North Carolina.

She also worked on this animated map about protest and policing in Graham, NC.

HELEN BURGESS

Helen Burgess published “Machine Dream Anthropocene: On Taking a Bot to the MLA” in Configurations Journal (29.1).

DAUN DAEMON

On February 1, Daun Daemon’s poem “After the pandemic, I will …” was published online by Into the Void. It subsequently appeared in print (Issue #18).

HUILING DING

Huiling Ding presented “AI and the Future of Work: Potential and Pitfalls in Using Labor Market Analytics to Create Future-Proofing Workforce” at the Embedding AI in Society Symposium (virtual) on February 19.

She also presented “Beijing’s Multi-sector e-Health Smart Crowdsourcing During COVID-19” at the Symposium of Communication of Complex Information (virtual) on February 22.

PAUL FYFE

Paul Fyfe presented “How to Cheat on Your Final Paper: Assigning AI for Student Writing” (viewable here https://youtu.be/SMwBu75nZjc) at the Embedding AI in Society online symposium, a part of the R. L. Rabb Science and Society Symposium series at NC State University.

MARSHA GORDON

On April 5 at 2 p.m. Eastern, Marsha Gordon will present a live WW2TV Broadcast about Sam Fuller’s war movies.

On April 19 from 3–4 p.m. Eastern, she will be on a panel about A.I. and film as part of the National Humanities Center’s In Our Image symposium.

ALLEN STEIN

Three of Allen Stein’s poems appear in the Winter 2021 issue of The Hudson Review: “The Great Darkness,” “The Neanderthal in Me,” and “Nearing Eighty, in the Classroom.”

TIM STINSON

Tim Stinson gave an invited Zoom lecture on “Biocodicology: The Biology of Books” to a group of students, librarians, and faculty at the University of Guelph.
