CHRIS ANSON

On January 15 and 16, Chris Anson conducted a program review of the Department of English, Rhetoric, and Humanistic Studies and the Institute Writing Program at Virginia Military Institute.

Paul Colby officially launched his fiction Substack, Borderline Fables, on January 9. Every two weeks, Colby will drop a new story from the borderline between fact and fantasy, present and future, Earth and space, laughter and grief. Subscriptions are free.

DAUN DAEMON

On January 18, Foxglove Journal published Daun Daemon’s poem “Parkour.”

JIM KNOWLES

On December 14, Jim Knowles led a workshop called “Piers Plowman: An ABC” as part of “Piers Without Tears,” an online pedagogy conference sponsored by the International Piers Plowman Society. 

JASON MILLER

Jason Miller’s research was featured at The Conversation under “Three Essential Reads on the FBI’s Assessment of MLK’s Radical Views and Allies.” 

In collaboration with composer Carolyn Colquitt, singer Lynette Barber, and historian Everett B. Ward, Miller presented Origins of the Dream: Hughes’s Poetry and King’s Rhetoric at the North Carolina Museum of Art, with musical selections from Mahalia Jackson, to highlight observance of the 40^th celebration of MLK Day in America. 

Miller was interviewed by WRAL’s Ken Smith for a feature story about MLK’s speech at Reynolds Coliseum on July 31, 1966. The story will air in early February.

His work was featured research online at the National Humanities Center.

His scholarship on Hughes and King is currently the subject of an exhibit showing at Yale University’s historic Beinecke Library, January 9–March 1.

Miller will give a lecture on Langston Hughes and Nina Simone and then engage in discussion with NC Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton Green at the North Carolina Museum of Art to celebrate Nina Simone’s birthday on February 21. Sandra Dubose will perform Simone’s songs.

Maria Rouphail’s latest poetry collection, All the Way to China (2022), is the featured work in the February edition of the blog Verse/Image.

TIM STINSON

Tim Stinson’s essay “‘Al for Some Conclusioun’: Trinitarian Structure and the Final Stanza of Chaucer’s Troilus” appeared in the latest issue of The Chaucer Review.

ERIK THOMAS

Erik Thomas’s paper “Structural impact of Spanish on English in the Southwest” appeared in Mutual Influence in Situations of Spanish Language Contact in the Americas (Routledge, 2023).

JOHN WALL

In December 2022, John Wall was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in recognition of his contributions to the study of early modern English religious history and literature.

His Virtual St Paul’s Cathedral Project is featured in the latest issue of The Disciple, a publication of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. This article is also available in Spanish.

Wall delivered a paper titled “Multiple Ways of Experiencing the Past: An Update on the Virtual St Paul’s Cathedral Project” at the Renaissance Society of America Virtual 2022 Conference, November 30–December 3, 2022.
