Faculty Notes for July/August 2022

CHRIS ANSON

This summer, Chris Anson spoke about his research on student text re-use at the 13th ARLE Conference in Nicosia, Cyprus, and about the relationship between writing centers and WAC programs at the EWCA conference in Graz, Austria.

Anson recently published “AI-Based Text Generation and the Social Construction of Fraudulent Authorship: A Revisitation” in Composition Studies (vol. 50, no. 1).

DAUN DAEMON

On July 2, The Dead Mule School published Daun Daemon’s short story “The Green Purse.”

Daemon’s poem “Different Daddies” is included in in The Poet’s anthology on Family, Volume 2.

HUILING DING

In June, Huiling Ding was a participant in the Responsible Artificial Intelligence Curriculum Design Project at the National Humanities Center.

Ding wrote the foreword for Embodied Environmental Risk in Technical Communication, Routledge (2022).

Huiling Ding and James Mulholland, along with Leigh Shamblin (Poole College of Management) and Yingjiao Xu (Wilson College of Textiles), participated in a panel on “Examining and Optimizing Infrastructure for Intentional Equity and Organizational Justice at NC State” at the Equity Research Symposium in February.

Huiling Ding and Jason Swarts led a workshop on “Examining Infrastructure for Intentional Equity and Organizational Justice with Critical Institutional Mapping” at the  Association of Teachers of Technical Writing (ATTW) conference, held virtually in June.

PAUL FYFE

Paul Fyfe and Fionnuala Dillane (University College Dublin) edited the inaugural section of “Field Notes” for the Journal of European Periodicals Studies (7.1). Pieces include their introduction “Multilingualism and Periodical Studies: A Report from an RSVP + ESPRit Workshop.” 

ANNA GIBSON

Anna Gibson was awarded a DELTA Course Improvement (CI) Grant (2022–23) for her online version of ENG 262: Survey of English Literature II. The collaborative grant supports course improvement with the goal of attaining nationally recognized Quality Matters certification. 

JENNIFER NOLAN

Jennifer Nolan’s article “Illustrating ‘Winter Dreams’ in Context” was published in the most recent volume of the F. Scott Fitzgerald Review this summer.

Nolan was interviewed for the F. Scott Fitzgerald Society Newsletter about her role as advisory editor of The Complete Magazine Stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald, 1921–1924, for which she wrote the introduction. The book is forthcoming from Edinburgh University Press in 2023.

Along similar lines, she has been chosen to give this year’s McDermott Lecture by the Friends of the St. Paul Public Library and will give a talk on “F. Scott Fitzgerald and the Jazz Age Magazine” in St. Paul in September.

ALLEN STEIN

Allen Stein’s poems “Bases Jammed” and “The Simple Consolations of Sports” appear in the current issue of Aethlon.
