Belle Boggs and Cadwell Turnbull were longlisted for the VCU Cabell First Novelist award.

Paul Broyles’s edition of Chaucer’s “Man of Law’s Tale” was published in Medieval Disability Sourcebook: Western Europe (punctum books).

Huiling Ding presented “Building Ethical AI for Workforce Empowerment, Upskilling, and Reemployment in Manufacturing” at the AAAI 2020 Spring Symposia (AI and Manufacturing), March 23–25. The event was originally scheduled to take place at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, but was converted to a two-day virtual conference due to the COVID-19 outbreak. 

Chelsea Krieg’s poem “The Moon Wanes After Chemotherapy” is forthcoming in Tinderbox Poetry Journal.

On March 17, Dorianne Laux was featured on Rattle: Poets Respond with her poem “Lord of the Flies.”

Laux was also featured on the Poetry Foundation’s podcast, Off the Shelf: Poems You Can Touch, as well as on the podcast from Proto: Massachusetts General Hospital, The Examination of a Poem.

Her poem “Evening” was translated into Bulgarian by Yuliyana Todorova and into Italian by Angela D’Ambra for a forthcoming anthology.

Despite events for his new biography on Langston Hughes being postponed at Malaprop’s Books in Asheville (April 7), Flyleaf Books (in conversation with Anna Jean Mayhew, April 28) in Memphis, TN (April 2), and Quail Ridge Books (March 27), Jason Miller’s World Poetry Day post Langston Hughes: Domestic Pariah, International Superstar ran in The Conversation on March 20 before being reprinted by several other news outlets.

Juliana Makuchi Nfah-Abbenyi published “Am I Anglophone? Identity Politics and Postcolonial Trauma in Cameroon at War” in Journal of the African Literature Association.

On March 2, Beryl Cox Pittman presented “When the Classroom Isn’t Enough: Enabling Minority Engineering Students to See Themselves in the Workplace” at the International Technology, Education and Development Conference in Valencia, Spain. She also chaired the session on Immigrants, Education and Inclusion. 

Tim Stinson, along with colleagues Simon Hickinbotham, Sarah Fiddyment, and Matthew J. Collins, co-authored “How to Get Your Goat: Automated Identification of Species from MALDI-ToF Spectra,” which appears in the latest issue of Bioinformatics. The study announces new techniques for species identification of medieval parchment samples.

Free Verse Editions, edited by Jon Thompson, has now released its 2020 titles. They are Elsewhere, That Small by Monica Berlin; The Calling by Bruce Bond; Alias by Eric Pankey; Mirrorforms by Peter Kline; Empire by Tracy Zeman [Winner of the New Measure Poetry Prize]; and Bari’s Love Song by Kang Un-Gyo.
