CHRIS ANSON

Chris Anson has been elected Vice-Chair of the International Society for the Advancement of Writing Research. He will become Chair in 2023. ISAWR sponsors a popular triennial international conference called Writing Research Across Borders.

BELLE BOGGS

Belle Boggs interviewed Lynn Casteel Harper about On Vanishing: Mortality, Dementia, and What it Means to Disappear in the Los Angeles Review of Books.

Boggs will be in conversation with Jill McCorkle for a virtual launch of McCorkle’s new novel, Hieroglyphics, on July 29 at 7 p.m. at Quail Ridge Books.

On May 28, Daun Daemon’s short story “Sonatina” was published by Literally Stories.

On June 11, Julia Gonzalez received her certificate of completion for the Quality Matters Independent Applying the QM Rubric (APPQMR): (Statewide Systems) course.

Marsha Gordon did a Discovery & Inspiration Podcast for the National Humanities Center about her book-in-progress on Ursula Parrott.

Gordon presented a live streaming event for NCSU Libraries with AV Geeks called “It’s Wonderful Being a Girl” featuring 3 educational films from the 1960s and 1970s.

Gordon’s “Movies on the Radio” segment for June was about drive-in movies. 

Her documentary All the Possibilities… won the jury prize for Best Documentary Short at the Longleaf Film Festival. The documentary is currently part of the Sheffield International Documentary Festival (SIDF) online platform for its European Premiere. In July, it will be screened at the University Film and Video Association annual conference, which will be virtual this year.

BILL LAWRENCE

Bill Lawrence transformed Young Writers Workshop into an online format this year. The program will host students, instructors, and guest writers from around the world. Some seats are still available for kids age 9–19 for the July 20 session: https://english.chass.ncsu.edu/youngwriters/online/. 

CAROLYN MILLER

Carolyn Miller and Molly Hartzog (2016 CRDM graduate) published “”Tree Thinking”: The Rhetoric of Tree Diagrams in Biological Thought” in Poroi: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Rhetorical Analysis and Invention 15:2 (May 2020).

Juliana Nfah-Abbenyi published “When real frogs fall from the skies” in Bearing Witness: Poems from a Land in Turmoil, edited by Joyce Ashuntantang & Dibussi Tande (Spears Books, 2020).

Allen Stein’s poem “Bull Durham, 1965,” which deals with racism, was published on the Massachusetts Review blog.

Stein’s second poetry collection, Unsettled Subjects: New Poems on Classic American Literature, was just published by Broadstone Books.
