Faculty Notes for November 2022

CHRIS ANSON

On November 18, Chris Anson presented “Teachers’ Attitudes Toward Students’ Reuse of Their Own Writing: Findings from a Scenario-Based Survey” at the 41^st annual Lilly Conference on College Teaching at Miami University of Ohio.

Helen Burgess coedited Community-led Editorial Management, a special issue of Commonplace, with Tony Alves of Highwire Press. Their introduction, “Exploring the Nuances,” also appears in the issue (Series 2.2).

Burgess co-published an essay with Travis Harrington titled “The Sound of Type: Multimodal Synaesthesia” in Amplifying Soundwriting: Theory and Practice in Rhetoric and Writing (WAC Clearinghouse, 2022). Harrington graduated from NC State in summer 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in English, concentrating in creative writing.

DAUN DAEMON

Daun Daemon published three poems — “Home Invasion,” “Turning 60 in a Pandemic 6/10/2020,” and “Twirling” — in Adanna Literary Journal, Issue 12.

PAUL FYFE

Jana Keck (German Historical Institute), Mila Oiva (Tallinn University), and Paul Fyfe published “Lajos Kossuth and the Transnational News: A Computational and Multilingual Approach to Digitized Newspaper Collections” in Media History (2022).

ANNA GIBSON

Anna Gibson was selected by the College as a nominee for the 2022–23 Outstanding Teacher Award. 

Gibson published a co-authored paper titled “Digital Deliverables: The Digital Dickens Notes Project” in the Victorians Institute Journal (49).

She organized and presented on a roundtable titled “Just Assignments: Rethinking Student Work in the Victorian Studies Classroom” at the North American Victorian Studies Conference in early October. 

CHELSEA KRIEG

Chelsea Krieg’s poems “Portrait of My Husband as The Owl of Minerva Takes Flight in the Dusk,” “I dreamed your name was River,” “Anytime Firecrackers,” “Postpartum as Corpse Flower,” and “Callinectes sapidus” appeared in The Southern Poetry Anthology, Volume IX: Virginia from Texas Review Press. 

MARIA ROUPHAIL 

All the Way to China, Maria Rouphail’s third book of poems, was published by Finishing Line Press in September.

Rouphail’s long poem, “Variations on a Theme of a Tenement,” was accorded the NC Poet Laureate first prize from the North Carolina Poetry Society and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, making it Rouphail’s sixth nominated poem.

ALLEN STEIN

Allen Stein’s poem “Contact Trace” appeared in Vox Populi.
