Get Involved

There are multiple ways to engage with the Department of English.

English Club

The English Club is a student-run organization that is open to all NC State students who have an interest in English. The club’s bi-monthly meetings include social and educational events. Some academic topics include graduate school, creative writing, publishing, and film discussions. Social events have included a Halloween party, St. Patrick’s Day celebration, ice cream social, and coffee meet-and-greets. Check out our Facebook group, “English Club at NCSU” or join our listserv (englishclub). Our meetings are open to non-members, so please feel free to come anytime (and bring your friends). If you’d like more information about the club, please contact the English Club student president (Callihan Herbster, crherbst@ncsu.edu) or faculty advisor (Anna Gibson, annagibson@ncsu.edu).

Sigma Tau Delta (International English Honor Society)

The NC State University chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, Alpha Pi Theta, recognizes high scholastic achievement and offers opportunities for leadership and service. Membership is open to English majors and minors who have a 3.25 overall and a 3.5 in their English courses. To be eligible, students must have completed at least three semesters of college course work and at least two English courses at the 200 level or higher. For more information, please contact the faculty advisor, Christopher Crosbie (christopher.crosbie@ncsu.edu).

Study Abroad

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences offers a range of faculty-directed study abroad experiences and field schools that span the globe, and study abroad scholarships to support students’ participation.

The Oxford Program provides students the opportunity to study and live at Oxford University while enjoying places of historic interest in the city of Oxford. The program brings together a diversity of students to live at an Oxford college and to study in a way which exemplifies the Oxford tradition of academic life, through British tutors and lectures. More than 700 students have participated in the Oxford program over the last 30 years.

For all other programs, please visit the Study Abroad website for more information.
